The 18th Century planned village of Stanley with West Stormont Historical Society. 09 June 2008. Leslie Fraser of West Stormont Historical Society will lead this walk around Stanley. Learn about 220 years of development in Stanley, the most historic planned village in Perthshire. Created as the result of co-operation between the county’s leading landowner, the Duke of Atholl, and inventor, industrialist Sir Richard Arkwright, the Stanley community appeared out of a rural landscape to provide housing for the many hundreds employed at the local cotton-spinning works.
