The Chronicle of Perth Perthshire Scotland

The Chronicle of Perth is a wide ranging manuscript, penned by several hands between c.1590 and c.1668. Its chief feature is a register of local and national events, and the authors deliberately evoke Perth's prominent status in medieval Scotland. The manuscript reveals useful details about urban life in an early modem Scottish burgh, and focuses upon the Gowrie Conspiracy of 1600, the period of the Covenanting wars, and Perth's long history of floods. The illustration on the cover is from a tracing of the watermark which appears on the pages of the manuscript. The Chronicle of Perth Between C.1590-1668.

Perthshire Local History

Dear Sandy, My sister and I toured Scotland last year as part of a European and United Kingdom tour. We will be returning within two years to continue our McDonald family history esearch. Our great-great grandfather John MacDonald was born in Ayr in 1822, and raised by his grandfather, John MacDonald, who was a ship owner and lime merchant in Perth, until he went to sea and eventually settled at Port Adelaide, Australia. We are wondering if there is a Family History Research Society, who could possibly help us further, or who we could visit when we return, to access some of the old records. I hope you can help us, and look forward to your reply. Kind regards, Helen McDonald.

From earliest times, Perthshire and Kinross-shire have played a very important part in Scotland's history, resulting in an area that is rich in social, economic and architectural history. It has become a desirable place to both live in and to visit, with residents and visitors wanting to discover more about the area and people who lived here. If you would like to find out about some of the local archaeological sites, if you would like to research the history of a particular village or your own family, or if you have an artefact you'd like to learn more about, then you'll find lots of useful sources of information to help you carry out your research here.
