Peatbog Faeries and Warsaw Village Band, Perthshire, Scotland. 06 March 2009, at Perth Concert Hall, Perth 7.30pm. As part of our Polish Spring season we bring together Scotland and Poland's most thrilling folk fusioneers for what is certain to be a combustible night of great tunes and thumping grooves. Trailblazers for the current popularity of Balkan beats and East European sounds, Warsaw Village Band have been one of Europe's most pioneering traditional-based bands in recent years. Originally formed to promote and preserve Poland's fading musical traditions, the band have brought the material they collected in rural villages into new and uncharted territory, mixing fiddles, dulcimer and hurdy-gurdy with rock, electronic, reggae and hip-hop rhythms with wonderful results. For the uninitiated, Peatbog Faeries are quite simply the best and brightest of the many bands who've attempted to merge Celtic and contemporary styles. Combining a brilliant melodic frontline with a killer rhythm section and now a beefy brass section, they are one of the best live bands on the planet.
