The Honorable Henry Erskine was a guest at a justiciary dinner in Perth, presided over by Lord Karnes. His lordship, with a reputation for being careful with his money, did not produce the usual quantity of claret. The conversation turned on Sir Charles Hardy's fleet, then being blockaded by the French. Upon which Erskine said: "They are, like us, confined to port."
