Old Auchterarder
Old Auchterarder, Perthshire, Scotland. Auchterarder has been with us since 1227 and Blackford is similarly ancient. Braco, however, came much later as it was developed in 1815 by the local landowner. The full history of these communities is recounted here, while the more recent years of the twentieth century are recalled by the fifty-three period photographs, featuring, among other things, Auchterarder's 'Coal Bore' and Henderson's Garage and roadside pump on High Street, the mills of Abbey Road, Blackford's railway station, the first Gleneagles House, and the early years of the world-famous hotel. Old Auchterarder, Blackford and Braco: With Aberuthven, Gask and Gleneagles.
