Perthshire Winter Words Festival

Winter Words Festival. 24 - 27 January 2008. Pitlochry Festival Theatre, Pitlochry, Perthshire, Scotland. Three themes quietly wind their way through this year’s Winter Words: country living and rural life, mountains and wild places and, unsurprisingly – winter! What better place for such a unique literary journey could there be than the stunningly beautiful surroundings of Scotland’s Theatre in the Hills? We are in the throes of agreeing this year’s Winter Words line-up. But if you had access to our top secret files, you would discover that some of the big-name authors with whom we’re in discussion include Brian Blessed, Bill Bryson, Griff Rhys Jones, Andrew Grieg, Jeff Connor, Chris Smith and William Boyd! That said, a number of literary stars have already confirmed for 2008. Actor, comedian and novelist Stella Duffy; Lord David Owen has been Foreign Secretary, leader of the Social Democratic Party, and is now a Crossbencher in the House of Lords; Ian R. Mitchell is regularly described as ''one of Scotland’s most distinguished mountain writers''; Christopher Rush is one of Scotland’s best loved authors; Vicky Jack - Vicky had no interest in climbing before she reached her 30s, and then she gave up her job in an attempt to climb the seven highest mountains in the world; and local MSP John Swinney, Cabinet Secretary for Finance in the new Scottish Government.
